Stay Safe - how to use a tradie during corona virus lockdowns and beyond
by Eddy Friday August 7th 2020
Although you are still able to have a Tradie attend your home or office in Sydney, you do need to abide by all NSW Government guidelines and use commonsense.
Most businesses are implementing COVID safe practices and will let you know what these are in their particular circumstance. Talk to your Tradie, to understand how they will interact with you on the job and what requirements are in place to ensure the health and well-being of their staff and you and your family.
Homeowners:
- Request a video call you with Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp to discuss any detail where the Tradie needs you to show him the issue. This may also help to price the job better and ensure that when you go to the site, you won't get a different price.
- If any of the occupants at your home are unwell or otherwise at risk rescheduling your job.
- Check with your Tradie if h or his staff have any symptoms or are unwell.
- Maintain the mandatory 1.5m social distancing rule and do not shake hands
- Ensure handwashing facilities and disinfectant are readily available and require their use. Ask the Tradie to regularly handwash, wear a mask and wear gloves where possible and use disinfectant or alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
- Check that he cleans his tools down with a disinfectant cloth – before and after the job.
- Make sure your family and yourself are not present in the area where the Tradie is working
- Keep windows and doors open to permit free access so less handling of entries etc
- Pay with a credit card or direct bank deposit. Avoid using cash as this can transmit disease.
